Kilkenny Brown Bread <<back>>
225g/ 1/2 lb white flour
1 tsp bread soda
1/2 tsp salt
450g/ 1lb wholemeal flour
75g/ 3oz/ wheat bran
30g/ 1oz pinhead oatmeal
1 egg
575ml/ 1 pt buttermilk
1/2 tbsp treacle
Sieve the white flour, bread soda and salt into a bowl, and add all the other dry ingredients.
Beat the egg, add to the buttermilk and mix in the treacle.
Add the liquid to the dry ingredients, mix to a soft dough, and divide into two well-greased 450 g/1 lb loaf tins/pans.
Bake in a preheated warm oven (200 C/400 F/Gas 6) for 45 minutes.
Turn out and cool on a wire tray.
