Kilkenny Design Centre is delighted to offer a supper menu at the Castleyard Cafe.
For summer time casual eating with a great choice of wines in a unique setting why not drop in?
The cafe offers seating in the shadow of the Castle, the Food Hall or the tranquillity of the Court yard.

All of Castleyard Cafés wines are organic and come to us from a local supplier.

Some of the vineyards grow biodynamically, widely re-garded as the most sustainable form of agriculture.
Look for the “Bio” sign on the wine menu.

The Castleyard Cafe evening menu is available 6.30 -10pm, Wednesday through Sunday.

The Castleyard Cafe at Kilkenny Design Centre is now open, providing great breakfasts and lunches to eat in or take away.

All food is prepared in-house at the Design Centre Kitchen including a range of freshly baked breads, pastries and scones.

Tasty breakfasts are served from 9am with Crispy Bacon with Brown Soda Bread & Homemade Tomato Chutney (€2.50) an immediate favourite. The Brown Soda Bread with Sausages & Wholegrain Mustard (€2.50) will also set you up for the morning, not to mention the great range of coffees and teas.

Come by later for Lunch, the daily specials include Bowl of Soup with Slice of Multiseed Brown Bread (€5.25) and Charcuterie Plate; Parma Ham, Salami and Chorizo served with Rocket Leaf Salad and Sour Dough Bread (€9.50)

Easter is a time to shake off the dust of our winter slumbers and awaken ourselves to the joys of spring.

Daffodils emerge from the earth and lambs leap in the fields, as rebirth and new beginnings surround us.

With the spring clean done and the cobwebs of winter now banished, Kilkenny Design Centre has discounted collections from Rachel Allen and Tipperary Crystal to breathe new life into your home.

After the Easter bunny has done his rounds, why not indulge yourself in some post Lenten luxuries at our beautiful restaurant just meters from Kilkenny Castle Park.

Open throughout the Easter weekend our bright and spacious dining area is the perfect place for a roast dinner or warm bowl of soup, following a busy morning rummaging for chocolate eggs.

The First Communion and Confirmation season has started again across the country. This is a big occasion for families with children receiving these sacraments. The spiritual preparations coupled with preparing the family celebration can make this a busy time.

If you are thinking of having a gathering of friends and family at home you can take the pressure off having to prepare all the food yourself.  Kilkenny Design Restaurant create delicious family size dishes available to collect and a friendly price.

Mothers Day as we see it, is the ‘official’ day of the year when our mammys  get to relax and enjoy a well-earned show of appreciation and love.  Obviously none of us can do what our mothers do each day, but on Sunday Mar 14th we can sure try.
As a guide, It’s the small things that count.  Think about what your mother would normally do during the day and either do it for her or offer a helping hand.
Breakfast in bed!  The classic treat is a great start to  Mother’s day!
Try to make every event of the day as easy and pleasurable for mom as possible.

Only when we show the sort of care and love she shows us all every day do we do the easy part, giving flowers and chocolates.

Drop in for lunch at the Design Centre Restaurant and let us treat all mothers to complimentary home-made Dessert with Tea or Coffee after their lunch before a stroll in the Castle Park.

‘Fairtrade Fortnight’ is running until March 7 and its theme is ‘The Big Swap’!
The campaign is aimed at highlighting the continued growth of Fairtrade Sales in Ireland.
The Big Swap suggests we swap our usual choice of brands for those with the ‘Fairtrade mark’.

To celebrate Fair Trade Fortnight (22nd Feb-7th March), Kilkenny City Council is hosting a Fair Trade Talk on Friday the 26th of February in City Hall at 2.30pm.  Representatives from Fairtrade Mark Ireland will speak to provide an update on Irish Fair Trade promotional activities before Josephat Sylvand, a coffee exporter from Tanzania speaks about the benefits that local co-ops receive from selling their coffee produce under Fair Trade terms.

The event will be hosted by Mayor Malcolm Noonan and a cup of Fair Trade Tea/Coffee will follow after the hour talk. The Kilkenny Fair Trade Steering Committee would be delighted for you to attend to hear about Fair Trade and the Fair Trade Status of Kilkenny City.  To reserve a seat for this event or to get more information on the current Fair Trade status of Kilkenny City,

At Kilkenny Design when someone mentions glass we readily think Jerpoint, Waterford or Tipperary.  But a collection of incredible glass art is on exhibition next door in the National Craft Gallery.
‘On The Edge’ opened on January 16th and is an exhibition of contemporary glass works from Ireland and South-West England.
Part of the aim of On The Edge is
“to give each artist space for blue-skying-the chance to make something specific for the show or exhibit work that is something from themselves.”
- Mary Mackey, artist and co-curator

While these artists may use a  similar process to their counterparts from our esteemed commercial crystal makers, the end work on display here is a world apart from whats displayed on our shelves. The ‘Other World’ look of pieces such as Colin Reid’s ‘Cello’ (image) is in itself a hidden treasure, where the viewer can see a very different form depending upon the angel you take.

These words won’t conjure up the amazing transparent spectacle of  ‘On The Edge’ now on display at the the National Craft Gallery in the Castle Yard.
The more practical, everyday use glassware for the home continues on permanent display at Kilkenny Design Craft Cente.
